Pahalgham:

A beautiful place situated 96 Kilometers from away from Srinagar at the height of 2195 meters. This place lies in “Lidder Valley”. Pahalgham is of cool climate, famous as a calm healthy resort. It is famous in the world for its natural beauty. Well, if you love adventure sports than Pahalgham is a must visit place for you, one can enjoy trekking here.

If you are worried about good hotels, then leave your worry aside and pack your back as the city has many 3 star and 5 star holes that can fit in your budget.

The city is surrounded by high peaks of mountains so you better get your visit the city along with your winter collection. Another interesting thing to do in the city is fishing in Lidder River which is another very interesting tourist point. Tourists also enjoy horse riding in the lush green valley of Pahalgham.

Shankaracharya Temple:

This is the famous ancient temple of Srinagar, which is located near the Dal Lake on a hill above 305 Meters. To reach this temple you have to climb 242 steps. According to historians, this temple was constructed by the Jhaluka, the son of king Ashoka in 200 BC.

Later, the Shankaracharya Temple was renovated by Lalitaditya in 699-736 BV. According to Hindu saint and philosopher Shankaracharya lived in the temple for few days.

This place is also known as “Pash Pahar” by Boddhas and “Takht-E-Suleman” by the Muslims. Don’t forget to enjoy the city the beauty of whole Srinagar from this place.

Chashma Shahi:

This beautiful Garden in Srinagar is also known as “Shahi Bagh”. This garden was constructed in supervision of Mughal Shehanshah Shahjahan’s Governor Ali Mardan in 1632 A.D. A variety of flowers and tree plantations could be seen in the garden. This garden is located at 9 Kilometers away from Srinagar.

Nishat bagh:

It is located on the bank of famous Dal Lake, about 11 Kilometers away from the main city of Srinagar. This beautiful and romantic place is known as Nishat Bagh. This garden is situated in the lap of Zabarwan Mountains. It was built by Mughal Queen Noor Jahan’s brother Asaf Khan. A water spring flows from the middle of this garden, in which you can see lots of fountains. This garden is famous as the one of the biggest gardens of Srinagar.

Shalimar Bagh:

The Shalimar Bagh is located 15 Kilometers away from Srinagar City. It was built by Jahangir for his wife Noorjahan as a meeting point. This garden’s area is 539X1882 meters. A small water channel runs through the middle of the garden. There are so many beautiful flowers, fruit trees, rows of Chinar trees in the garden, which is the most attractive part of the Shalimar Bagh and attracts tourists. A program of enchanting “Light and Music” increases the charm of this place. This place is a must visit place in Srinagar.

Dal Lake:

This is the most beautiful tourist spot of Srinagar. Dal Lake is surrounded by mountain peaks and lots of trees of Chinar, Deodar and Pine. Inside the lake you can see floating gardens, floating houseboats and shikaras(small boats). You can always enjoy a paid ride on these shikaras. These house boats, shikaras float on Dal Lake, Jhelum and Nagin Lake. Generally shikaras are used by traders to arrange their merchandise self stationary goods, fruits, vegetables, flowers, shawls, carpets, eatables and cold drinks etc. House Boats are well decorated and provide facility of full boarding from bed tea to dinner. Spending time in these house boats gives extra ordinary experience.

Char Chinar:

Char Chinar is located in the middle portion of Dal Lake “Lokundal”, which is also called Rooplank. This island is surrounded by water of Dal Lake on which four Royal Chinar Trees are there. This island derives its name from these Chinar trees. There is a small restaurant, where you can have refressments. To reach this place you have to hire a Shikara from the banks of Dal Lake.

Nehru Park:

Nehru Park is situated on the north side of the Gagriwal at the foot of the Shankaracharya Hills. This is fun park, you can have snacks, cutlets, cold drinks and coffee here. There is also a small café in this park. This park was built in the memory of Late Jawahar Lal Nehru. The illumination at the night attracts the tourists.

Hazrat Bal:

The holy masque is situated 9 Kilometers away from the city on the western shore of the Dal Lake opposite Nishat Bagh. It commands a great view of the lake and the mountain beyond. This sacred masque is made of white marble in Arab style architecture. This mosque has a special importance for Muslims because a hair of Hazrat Mohammad Sahib’s chin is displayed here inside the glass case. It said this hair was brought from Madina in 1630.

Gulmarg:

“Valley of Flowers” is the other name given to Gulmarg. This place is also famous for its roap way, by which you can reach on icy peaks of Gulmarg. This is a beautiful Alpine retreat, situated at the height of 2730 Meters above the sea level. This place is 50 Kilometers away from Srinagar. Beauty of this place, lush green fields, different and awesome flowers is the reasons that this place is a major tourist attraction. The climate of Gulmarg is too cool and mild. Accommodation facility is available here for the tourists.

Sonmarg:

Sonmarg is situated at 80 Kilometers north-west of Srinagar on Srinagar-Leh highway route. Sonmarg is surrounded by high mountains. Legend goes that somewhere in the valley there is a well whose water is of gold color, so it is called Meadow of Gold. The natural beauty of Sonmarg’s nature charms the tourists. In winter season the whole Sonmarg Valley is covered by heavy snow. So it becomes very difficult and risky to visit the valley by an ordinary tourist, while experienced tracker often go there anytime. The famous Khaziar Glacier is situated just 3 Kilometers south of Sonmarg.

How to reach Srinagar, Jammu and Leh

By Air: Srinagar is well connected regular Airlines flights with Delhi, Amritsar, Jammu, Chandigarh, Leh, Ahamdabad and Mumbai.

By Rail: Nearest Railway Station to Srinagar is Udhampur. You can reach Udhampur from Jammu.  Jammu is connected by Delhi, Chandigarh and Amritsar.

By Road: Srinagar is connected with an all weather road to Jammu and other neighboring areas.

Accommodation:

Srinagar has a wide variety of accommodation ranging from Five-Star Deluxe hotels and Deluxe House Boats to Moderate Guest House situated at Boulevard Road around Dal Lake. Jammu and Kashmir has a large number of self contained alpine cottages and Tourist Bunglows at Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonmarg.

Best Season for Visiting Srinagar: May-July and again September-October.
